CAPE CORAL, Fla.- About 300 runners hit the pavement in Cape Coral Sunday morning for the Mangrove marathon. One of the runners used the marathon as part of a larger training plan. Sergeant Dave Drum is a Lee County Sheriff’s deputy. Sunday’s run was part of his preparation for the “walk for the fallen” next spring. In april he will walk 390 miles from Fort Myers to Tallahassee to raise funds and awareness for families of officers killed in the line of duty. While “walk for the fallen” will benefit those families, a portion of proceeds from the mangrove marathon went to the Corey Kent fund… named for the Cape soldier injured in Afghanistan last year.
