“Adopt-A-Senior Program Spreads Holiday Cheer”

On Saturday, December 3, 2011 the Fort Myers Police Department and Fort Myers City employees hope to make some wishes come true this holiday season through the Adopt-A-Senior Program. City employees sponsoring a senior were given a name and a wish list. 120 seniors from two public housing facilities registered to participate in the program. The shopping and wrapping has been done and the gift-giving will take place at the Dr. Carrie Robinson Center at 2990 Edison Avenue from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Activities include a buffet style lunch with Chief Doug Baker and Santa as well as performers singing holiday classics. This is the 12th year the Fort Myers Police Department’s Crime Prevention Unit has coordinated the event. Members of the media are welcome to attend this holiday tradition.

A special thanks to the organizations the helped make the Adopt-A-Senior event happen: City of Fort Myers, HACFM, The American Red Cross, The American Legion, Right at Home, Dr. Piper Center, Alert Medical, LEAPP, Caloosa Tent & Rental, Friendship Centers, Sweet Tomatoes, Coca-Cola, Walmart, BJ’s, and Publix.
