May 5, 2014

On Friday, May 2, 2014 Fort Myers Police Department’s Officer Michael Perry and Officer Ilia Movalli received the 2014 Lee County Bar Association Officer of the Year award. The officers were honored for their lifesaving efforts during a medical call where a female was unresponsive and not breathing.

On January 3, 2014 Officers Perry and Movalli quickly responded to the scene and located the female. Officer Perry and Officer Movalli immediately began life saving measures in the form of chest compressions and rescue breathing. Officer Movalli administered proper chest compressions while Officer Perry provided rescue breathing. The officers continued their efforts for approximately four minutes until Emergency Medical Services arrived on scene. Later Emergency Medical Services personnel advised, if not for the quick response of Officer Perry and Officer Movalli and their excellent knowledge of how to properly administer CPR, the victim would most likely not have survived.

Officer Perry and Officer Movalli had recently participated in CPR Block training as part of their Florida Officer Certification. This training was provided by certified in-house agency instructors, led by the training division. It is clear by the actions of these officers; they absorbed the training and as a result – saved a life!

Both of these officers were commended for their quick response, actions, and composure that clearly assisted with saving this person’s life. Their professionalism and dedication to the law enforcement profession and the citizens of Fort Myers is an example for all to follow.

Please join us in congratulating Officer Perry and Officer Movalli on their outstanding achievement.
