As party-going ghosts and goblins begin celebrating Halloween tDrive-soberhe Fort Myers Police Department reminds everyone to keep the party off the road.  FMPD is participating in a national campaign to stop drunk driving. This coming weekend through Halloween, FMPD will step-up DUI enforcement to include roving patrols targeting drunk drivers. FMPD reminds drivers that there isn’t a Halloween costume clever enough to hide an impaired driver who has made the poor decision to get behind the wheel. Whether you’ve had one too many or way too many it is just not worth the risk. Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Halloween is one of the deadliest nights of the year. FMPD recommends these simple tips for a safe Halloween:

  • Plan ahead. Always designate a non-drinking driver before any holiday party or celebration begins.
  • Take the keys. Do not let a friend drive if they are impaired.
  • Be a helpful host. If you’re hosting a party, remind your guests to designate a sober driver, always offer alcohol-free beverages, and make sure all of your guests leave with a sober driver.
  • If you see an impaired driver on the road call police.
