CAPE CORAL, Fla.—This year’s ‘Holiday Heroes Food Drive’ beat last year’s collection total by several hundred pounds of food. In fact, the Cape Coral Police SWAT Team collected over One-Thousand pounds more this year than last year.

On Tuesday November 13th Cape Coral SWAT Team members, with assistance from the Marine Unit and District Resource Officers, set up collection sites at the Walmart Supercenter on Del Prado Blvd and the Walmart Neighborhood Market on Pine Island Road. The officers collected non-perishable food items for the Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida.

Last year the SWAT Team collected items and their single day total collected was 1600 lbs of food. Tuesday’s total for a single day collection was 2627 lbs of food!

Bedzaida Bryen, Volunteer Manager for the Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida, summed it up in few yet powerful words, “Awesome, kudos to you all!”

“It’s our pleasure, we feel really good about the outcome this year. It’s nice to take a break from our usual duties and give back to help those less fortunate in our community.”-Carlos Mena, Team Leader CCPD SWAT.
