FMPD Sponsors Fair and Impartial Policing Seminar
(Fort Myers, FL) The Fort Myers Police Department is conducting a one-and-a-half-day program on Fair & Impartial Policing at the City Pier building on Thursday and Friday November 1st and 2nd. The seminars will be conducted by Dr. Lorie Fridell, a professor of criminology at the University of South Florida and the CEO of FIP, LLC. She is recognized as a national expert on biased policing and is the author of numerous publications addressing implicit bias.
News media representatives are invited to interview Dr. Fridell at 2 p.m. on Thursday and remain afterwards to observe and gather additional information. Fair and Impartial Policing (FIP) criteria is based upon the science of implicit bias and how it can affect what people perceive and do in the course of their official duties. The implication is that even the best law enforcement officers may experience bias because they are human. The FIP seminars are a joint training effort with City of Fort Myers officials and community leaders.
Media wishing to attend are ask to RSVP by email to fmpdpio@fmpolice.com or call (239) 321-7805 by 12 noon on Thursday, November 1, 2018. For more information go to www.fipolicing.com
