The Fort Myers Police Department is holding a summer camp aimed at the development of our area’s youth. The camp is called Dare 2 Understand and is an innovative camp for our youth to see how interactions with law enforcement can be positive. Developed by Dunbar Community Policing Coordinator Yvetta Dominique, the camp will give our youth the tools to have positive interactions when approached by law enforcement, teach lessons for resolving conflict without violence, and provide insight into their continuing education and entering the workforce.

Local leaders, law enforcement officers and several instructors will be working closely with the youth in this week long free camp. Dare 2 Understand camp will be held at City Gate Ministries, located at 1735 Jackson Street from Monday, June, 29 through Friday, July, 3.

The camp will have the following schedule of events:

  • Monday – Alcohol/ Drug Prevention
  • Tuesday – Bully Awareness
  • Wednesday – Gang Prevention
  • Thursday – Law Enforcement Interaction
  • Friday – Graduation (acknowledgement of the teens hard work)

Dare 2 Understand camp currently has five open spots for youths ages 14 to 17. For more information about the camp or how you can get a child involved please contact Officers Yvetta Dominique at ydominique@fmpolice.com and/or Officer Eddie Brown at cbrown@fmpolice.com or call (239) 321-7700.
