On Tuesday, October 7, 2014 the Fort Myers Police Department and neighborhoods throughout the City will join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the “31st Annual National Night Out” (NNO) crime and drug prevention event. National Night Out, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and co-sponsored locally by FMPD, will involve over 16,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. “This year’s event will be the 16th annual event for the Fort Myers Police Department,” according to Operations Bureau Captain Jim Mulligan. Last year more than 37 million people participated in America’s night out against crime. National Night Out is designed to:

  • Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness.
  • Generate support for and participation in local anti-crime efforts.
  • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships.
  • Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

This year’s NNO Community Celebration “Give Crime a Going Away Party” will take place at Centennial Park located in Downtown Fort Myers from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The event will be a night of family fun to include free food, games, music, kid’s fun zones, police demonstrations and free child I.D. kits.
