On Friday May, 16, 2014, the United States Attorney’s Office, Middle District of Florida, held their annual Outstanding Law Enforcement Officer Awards Ceremony. According to the Department of Justice the purpose of the ceremony is to recognize members of federal, state, local and international law enforcement agencies for their extraordinary contribution to the people of the United States and to the mission of the United States Attorney’s Office, Middle District of Florida.
Fort Myers Police Department’s Violent Crimes Detective Michael Walsh was honored at the ceremony by receiving the “2013 Outstanding Law Enforcement Officer” award. Detective Walsh was selected for his participation in a joint task force of federal, state and local law enforcement officers who were responsible for arresting a group of four men who committed a string of violent bank robberies during 2011 and into 2012. The extensive investigation was recently closed with four bank robbery convictions ranging from 7 years to 65 years in prison for the group mastermind.
