“Over 200 expected at FMPD’s Adopt-A-Senior 2013”

On Saturday, December 14, 2013 the Fort Myers Police Department and other City of Fort Myers employees hope to make some wishes come true this holiday season. Adopt-A-Senior is an annual tradition in its 17^th year. The program honors our City’s seniors with a Christmas gift, live entertainment and a holiday meal sure to please. Over 200 seniors from public housing facilities Renaissance Preserve and Southward Village will be receiving gifts this year.

Here’s how it works; Police and City employees that sign-up for the program are paired with a senior and given a wish list. The employee then buys their senior a gift from their list. “It is heartwarming to see the joy and interaction between our seniors and officers. This event is a valued tradition at the police department,” said Lieutenant Jay Rodriguez.

The shopping and wrapping has been done and the gift-giving will take place at the Riverside Community Center located at 3061 East Riverside Drive from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Activities include a traditional holiday meal, Officer Dallas Smart as Santa and St. Petersburg’s “No Slack” singing Motown holiday classics.
