The Punta Gorda Police Department is proud to announce that Communications Supervisor Nancy Morris has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Florida Chapter of the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO). APCO is the world’s largest organization of public safety communications professionals, serving the needs of public safety communications practicioners worldwide. Morris was elected to the Board at the Daytona Beach APCO State Conference on November 1st.

Morris, an 8 year veteran of the Punta Gorda Police Department, has supervised the Punta Gorda Police Department’s Communications Section since January 2, 2007.

“We are very proud ofNancy, and the leadership role she has taken in the State to ensure that our citizens received the finest communications and dispatch services possible,” stated Chief Butch Arenal. “Her extensive involvement in APCO has helped us to benchmark with the very best.”

Morris has served in a number of leadership roles within APCO to include Chair of the Public Affairs Committee, Editor of the Quarterly Newsletter, Sub-Committee Member for APCO International Standards Development, and she served on the Florida Training Committee for APCO during the 911 certification process – a new legislative mandate inFlorida. Morris also achieved certification as a Registered Public Safety Leader, a comprehensive 12-month program that focuses on the skill sets that make for solid leadership performance.

“Public Safety Telecommunicators are the lifeline to every law enforcement officer on the street,” Chief Arenal added. “Nancy’s dedication and commitment to exceptional service are a tremendous asset to the City ofPunta Gorda, our residents, and our employees.”
