To celebrate the holiday season, the Cape Coral Police Department has adopted “Shop with a Cop”, a holiday program which allows officers to spend some positive one-on-one time with Cape Coral children whose families are having financial issues.

This year will mark the Cape Coral Police Department’s 10th annual “Shop with a Cop” sponsored by the CCPD Do The Right Thing program.

Here’s how it works:

The students chosen will each receive a Wal-Mart gift card courtesy of the Police Department’s “Do the Right Thing” program. With the help of their Police Officer escorts, the students will pick gifts for each family member as well as something special for themselves. The gifts will be wrapped at the Police Department and shoppers will all be treated to lunch before heading home with their presents.

The “Do the Right Thing” program reinforces the idea of sharing and giving and promotes the idea that role models of all ages are important to the development of our youth.

Shop with a Cop will take place this year on Friday, December 21st.

To nominate a child, parents should pick up a nomination form at the Cape Coral Police Department lobby or inquire at any Cape Coral school.

Approximately 40 students will be chosen.

To qualify:

• Child must be available on Friday, December 21st to shop.

• Child must be in grade Kindergarten through 12th.

• Child & family must live in Cape Coral.

• Child must be eligible for “free lunch” at his or her school.
