The Fort Myers Police Department is currently accepting applications for the upcoming CitizenPoliceAcademy. Participants in the academy will be exposed to all facets of FMPD to include various hands-on demonstrations. The classes arm citizens with knowledge, providing a better understanding of police functions and greater insight to police practices and services. Classes are held at the SouthwestFloridaPublicSafetyAcademylocated at 4312 Michigan Avenue. Classes begin on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 and will run for ten consecutive Wednesdays from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.  Additionally, there will be four Saturday interactive classes that are optional. Class size is limited to 25 participants.
