20140712-170022-61222399.jpgThe Fort Myers Police Department is asking residents to help us reduce crime by not tempting thieves with items commonly found unsecured around the exterior of your home. Some of the items in question that will tempt a thief are as follows:

• Bicycles
• Lawn mowers
• Barbecues
• Tools
• Sporting equipment

Additional considerations to help prevent theft around the home include:

• Keep garage doors and sheds on the property locked at all times
• Have adequate exterior lighting which will take away hiding spots for thieves and burglars
• A motion-sensitive light is highly recommended for the backyard

“These thefts are absolutely preventable if homeowners take a little extra time to assess their property and secure valuables,” said police spokesperson Lieutenant Victor Medico. As always if you see anyone acting suspicious or loitering in your area please do not hesitate to call the Fort Myers Police Department. Be a good witness and let us investigate further.
